Perle Noire is known for her energetic performances, flawless dance moves, and exuberant personality that leaps off the stage almost as high as one of her trademark jumps. Have you ever wanted to learn how to incorporate this dynamic style into your performances? This is your chance, as Perle Noire presents “Perlesque,” a workshop that explores the style that has earned her awards and international acclaim!
During each one-hour class, students will work on Latin dance, learn fierce walks, hip vibrations, and seductive choreography that will all come together to help create vivacious and captivating burlesque performances. Both novices and seasoned performers are encouraged to attend.
The class format will include the following:

•Burlesque, Latin, Jazz, and African inspired choreography

1+1 = EVERYTHING! or SHARING THE SPOTLIGHT
Dynamic Duets with Kitten N’ Lou
Being part of a duo may seem like half the work of being a soloist, but it’s more than twice as complicated! This workshop is beneficial for all levels of duet experience, from long standing duet teams to soloists who may find themselves occasionally onstage at the same time as another performer, be it another burlesquer, the host, or a stage kitten. This workshop will concentrate on three main concepts: unison impulse, sharing the spotlight (aka giving and taking focus) and our personal favorite, the trifecta of theatrical relationships between two performers and an audience. We will explore these three concepts through improvised exercises, theatrical role playing, and choreography. We will also discus how these concepts can help you entertainingly get out of pretty much any onstage burlesque catastrophe. Kitten and Lou have extensive experience working in duet form both together and separately, and are excited to share the tools and concepts that inform both the development and the performance of their work.
Performers are welcome to participate in this workshop with a partner or on their own!

Playing With Gender in Burlesque:
Borrowing from the art of drag, Kitten N’ Lou will teach you how to both “butch up” and “femme up” your performance. We will begin with movement exercises that explore stereotypically masculine and feminine attributes. Students will then learn a piece of set choreography that performers will be coached in making individual choices throughout in order to develop their own character’s gender expression, be it overtly masculine, hyper feminine, or any unique blend of the two!
